Privacy policy

NPMahjong is run by Nicolas Pro, a certified professional riichi mahjong player based in Osaka, Japan. I write the articles, build the tools, and answer the forms myself. When this policy says “I”, that’s me.

Questions about your data go through the contact form. I reply from my own inbox.

This is a static site hosted on Vercel. Reading an article, browsing the glossary, or using the search box creates no account and sets no cookie from me. Search runs in your browser against an index that downloads with the page. The fonts are served from this domain, so no request goes to Google Fonts.

Like every web server, Vercel sees your IP address, browser type, and the pages you request in order to deliver them. Vercel keeps those request logs for a short time for security and debugging. I don’t export or profile them.

The site loads two Vercel scripts: Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights. Analytics counts page views, referrers, country, device type, and browser. Speed Insights measures how fast pages load on real devices.

Neither script sets a cookie or tracks you across other sites. Vercel derives a hashed visitor identifier from the request and discards it after the day ends, so I see aggregate numbers, never a history tied to you. There is no Google Analytics, Meta pixel, or advertising tracker on this site. A thumbs up, a thumbs down, and a share on an article are not sent to Analytics. Those clicks add 1 to a public total. Article counts live in Vercel Blob. The total is the article slug and three numbers. It has no name, email, or IP address.

Three forms post to this site. I store what you send with Resend, and for the contact and coach-me forms I also email the request to myself:

• Contact form: your name, email address, subject, and message.
• Coach me form: your name, email address, the service you’re interested in, your platform and rank if you add them, and your goals.
• Newsletter signup: your email address.

Each form carries a hidden field that only bots fill in. I drop those submissions before anything is stored. Resend keeps every real contact, and I can see it in the Resend dashboard. I keep the email copy of a contact or coaching request for as long as our conversation is useful and delete it when you ask.

I use your email address to answer you, to deliver the service you asked about, and, for the newsletter, to send new guides and tools. Nothing else. I don’t sell or rent the list. Every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link, and a message through the contact form removes you just as well.

When you share a result from the rank calculator, the calculator shares the long ?c= URL. The address holds the current rank, target rank, placement rates, room, game length, and mode. Opening it reads those settings in your browser.

The link has no name, email address, or IP address, and nothing ties it to you. Anyone who has the link can open it. Treat a share link as public.

The site sets no cookies of its own. It writes a few values to your browser’s local storage. They never leave your device:

• np-promo-dismissed remembers that you closed the announcement bar, so it stays closed.
• np-tile-set remembers whether you picked Classic or Jade tiles.
• np-blog-view remembers whether the blog is a grid or a list.
• np-post-vote remembers a thumbs up or thumbs down on an article, one value per article, so a refresh does not vote again.

Clearing your browser storage removes them and brings the announcement bar back.

Some articles embed YouTube videos through youtube-nocookie.com. The player loads only after you press play. Once it does, YouTube (Google) receives your IP address and applies its own privacy policy.

The site links out to Discord, Patreon, X, YouTube, and my Japanese site at nikorasu.pro. Some article product links are Amazon affiliate links, and I earn a small commission when you buy through them at no extra cost to you. Once you follow any of those links, the destination’s rules apply, not this policy.

I don’t share your data with anyone beyond the services that run this site:

• Vercel hosts the site, runs Web Analytics and Speed Insights, and stores article counts in Vercel Blob.
• Resend stores form contacts and sends me the contact and coaching emails.

These providers operate servers outside Japan, mainly in the United States. Each is bound by its own privacy policy and terms and processes the data only to provide its service.

You can ask me what I hold about you, ask for a correction, or ask me to delete it. Send the request through the contact form from the email address you used. I answer within 30 days and delete the Resend contact and my email copy when you ask.

I run this site from Japan and follow Japan’s Act on the Protection of Personal Information. If you live in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the additional rights the GDPR gives you, including the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

The site is written for adults learning mahjong. I don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If a child sent me a form, contact me and I’ll delete it.

When I add a service that touches your data, I update this page and the date at the top before it goes live. Material changes get a note in the newsletter as well.
