How MahjongSoul ranking works

MahjongSoul uses a rank point system where you gain points for placing 1st or 2nd, and lose points for 4th place. Third place is generally neutral.

Rank tiers

Progress through Novice, Adept, Expert, Master, Saint, and Celestial. Each tier has 3 stars (except Celestial). You need to accumulate enough points to promote, and falling below zero demotes you.

Rooms and point rewards

Higher rooms offer more points for winning but also bigger penalties for 4th. The calculator automatically places you in the best available room for your rank.

East vs South games

South games (Hanchan) double the rank points compared to East games (Tonpuusen). From Master rank onwards, South becomes more favorable if you have a high 4th-place rate.

About this calculator

This tool runs Monte Carlo simulations based on your placement rates. It doesn't account for score differentials or uma bonuses beyond the base values. Use it as a guide to understand how your play style affects long-term rank progression.
