Is the open hand tenpai?
Count the calls, check the turn, watch the discard. You get the share of Houou hands in that spot that were already tenpai.
Tenpai chance
1 call, turn 8, not honitsu, no tell:
26.8%of these hands are tenpai
The source table doesn't print a sample size for hand types.
Covers: Any called hand that isn't a one-suit honitsu.
- Calls
- 1 call
- Turn
- Turn 8
- Hand type
- Not honitsu
- Tell
- No tell
How to use this
- Pick how many calls the player has made.
- Pick the turn. Turns count from 0, so turn 8 is the ninth time around.
- Pick the hand type their calls and discards point to. Not sure? Leave it on Not honitsu.
- Add one tell if you saw it: the discard they just made, or their first call. The result shows the odds with the tell next to the odds without it.
What the number counts
- The analysis checks every hand at each dealer discard and stops at the first riichi. So the odds describe tables where nobody has declared yet.
- Tenpai means the shape is one tile from a win. The code doesn't check for a yaku.
- Yakuhai means a called value honor or two or more of any honor in hand. Honitsu means one suit, with one stray tile allowed.
- Discard tells cover every called hand except honitsu. First-call tells cover one-call hands with no honitsu and no yakuhai.
Where the numbers come from
Tenhou Houou logs 2016–2020, analysis by chienshyong (fork of Euophrys/houou-analysis)
The tool reads OpenTenpai.csv: tenpai rates by turn and calls for each hand type, plus the tell and first-call tables with their sample sizes. The hand-type tables don't print a sample size, so the tool says so instead of guessing one.
Left out: the kan, joint-drop and tsumogiri tables, which come without sample sizes, and the 1-shanten shares.
The original analysis code is Euophrys/houou-analysis. The tool reads the published result tables as they stand and does the division itself.
These numbers are statistical guidance for Houou-level 4-player hanchan. Your table, the scores and your reads can make a different play right.
