Terms of service

NPMahjong is run by Nicolas Pro, a certified professional riichi mahjong player in Osaka, Japan. By reading the site, using the tools, or booking a service you agree to these terms. They exist so we both know what to expect. Nothing here takes away rights that consumer law gives you where you live.

The privacy policy explains what the site collects. This page covers everything else.

The articles, glossary entries, images I made, and the site design are my work and protected by copyright. You may read them, link to them, and quote short passages with credit and a link back. You may not republish whole articles, translate them, or feed them into a product without asking first through the contact form.

The strategy advice is my professional opinion based on years at Japanese tables. It will make you a better player over many games. It doesn’t guarantee any single result, rank, or placement, and you take your own decisions at the table.

Mahjong Soul, Tenhou, Riichi City, M.LEAGUE, and other names that appear on the site are trademarks of their owners. NPMahjong is independent and has no affiliation with them.

The rank calculator and the other tools are free and come as they are. The calculator runs a simulation from the placement rates you enter. Its output is a projection, not a promise about your climb.

When you share a result, the calculator shares the long ?c= URL. Anyone with the link can open it. Don’t put anything into the calculator that you wouldn’t want a stranger to see.

Article counts live in Vercel Blob. A thumbs up, a thumbs down, or a share on an article adds 1 to a public total for that article. The total is the slug and three numbers.

Please don’t scrape the site. I may block traffic that does.

I offer 1-on-1 coaching, game reviews, and translation and writing work for mahjong projects. Every engagement starts with a request through the coach me form or the contact form. I reply with a quote that names the service, the scope, the price, the turnaround, and the payment method. The engagement begins once you accept the quote and the payment clears.

Payment happens off this site through the method named in your quote. This site has no checkout and never sees your card details. Prices are quoted in the currency stated in the quote, and any bank or platform fees on your side are yours.

For a game review, you send me logs or replay links you are allowed to share. For live coaching, you need a stable connection and the platform we agree on. I deliver reviews in written form, in English, Japanese, or Spanish as agreed.

• Live sessions: reschedule free of charge with at least 24 hours notice. A cancellation with less notice, or a no-show, counts as a completed session.
• Game reviews: cancel before I start and you get a full refund. Once I have started, the review is delivered and the fee is earned. There is no refund after a review is delivered.
• Localization and writing work: the quote names the milestones. Work already delivered is paid; work not yet started is refunded.
• If I cancel: when I have to cancel a session or can’t deliver, you choose between a new date and a full refund of that session or review.

Refunds go back through the same payment method within 14 days. Patreon memberships follow Patreon’s own billing and cancellation rules.

Logs, replays, screenshots, and questions you send me stay yours. I use them only to deliver your review or session. If I want to turn one of your hands into a public article or example, I ask you first and anonymize it unless you prefer credit.

Reviews and coaching notes I write for you are for your personal study. You may keep them, share them with your study group, and quote them. You may not resell them or publish them as a course.

Some product links in articles are Amazon affiliate links. When you buy through one, I earn a small commission and you pay the same price. I recommend only gear I would put on my own table.

Discord, Patreon, X, YouTube, and Amazon are separate services with their own terms. I don’t control them and I’m not responsible for what happens there.

The site and the tools are provided as they are, without warranties. I’m not liable for losses that follow from a decision you made at the table, from a projection the calculator gave you, or from the site being unavailable. For paid services, my liability is limited to the amount you paid for the service in question. None of this limits liability that Japanese law says can’t be limited.

These terms are governed by the laws of Japan. If we can’t settle a disagreement by talking it through, the Osaka District Court has jurisdiction. If you are a consumer in a country whose law gives you the right to sue at home, that right stays with you.

When I change a service or a policy, I update this page and the date at the top. A quote you have already accepted keeps the terms that were live on the day you accepted it.
