"How long until I reach Saint?"
Every MahjongSoul player asks this at some point. The grind from Adept to Master feels endless. The jump to Saint feels impossible. And Celestial? A distant dream.
I got tired of guessing. So I built a tool that calculates it.
The Rank Calculator
Enter your starting rank, target rank, and placement rates. The simulator runs 1,000 trials and shows you:
- Success probability — Your odds of reaching the target
- Games needed — Average games to get there
- Rank distribution — Where you'll likely end up
- Journey insights — Expected demotions and rank floor
No signup. No ads. Just math.
How it works
The calculator uses Monte Carlo simulation with MahjongSoul's actual point system:
- Accurate room rewards (Bronze through Throne)
- Correct penalties per rank
- Proper demotion mechanics
- Room restrictions based on rank tier
Each trial simulates your entire journey game by game. Run 1,000 of these and you get statistically meaningful results.
Why placement rates matter more than you think
Most players focus on avoiding 4th place. That's correct, but incomplete.
The difference between 25% first-place rate and 30% first-place rate is massive over hundreds of games. A 5% improvement in your top rate can cut your climb by 20-30%.
The calculator lets you experiment:
- What if I improved my 1st rate by 3%?
- What if I reduced my 4th rate from 25% to 20%?
- How does switching from Hanchan to Tonpuusen affect my climb?
Journey insights: The feature nobody asked for (but everyone needs)
Climbing isn't linear. You'll demote. Sometimes multiple times.
The calculator now tracks:
- Average demotions per journey
- Zero-demotion probability
- Rank floor — how low you might drop
Knowing you'll demote 2-3 times on average makes it easier to handle when it happens. It's not bad luck. It's statistics.
Per-room configuration
Your performance varies by room. Gold room plays differently than Jade. Throne is another level entirely.
Advanced mode lets you set different placement rates for each room. This gives more accurate predictions for players who know their room-specific stats.
Share your results
Run a simulation and share it. The calculator generates:
