清老頭 Chinroutou. All Terminals. Chinroutou in the glossary.

is a , open or closed. Every tile is a 1 or a 9 of a number suit. No honors, and no 2 through 8.

The name players use is chinroutou (清老頭). This site's glossary also lists it as All Terminals, and the EMA 2016 rules use the same English name.

Only 1s and 9s

There are six terminals: . A 1 and a 9 can't share a run, so the hand is four triplets or quads and a pair. is out, because six kinds can't make seven different pairs.

Add one honor and the hand is honroutou instead: 2 , with or seven pairs alongside it.

The glossary entry is the short form: only.

Two calls, still a yakuman

You called on 1 man and on 9 pin: and . These seven tiles are still in your hand.

The hand waits on or , a wait on two pairs. Either tile is chinroutou. A collects 32,000. The dealer collects 48,000. Fu don't count once a hand reaches the limit.

Closed, with suuankou

No calls. : 1 man, 9 pin, 1 sou, and 9 sou. The hand waits on alone, a for the pair.

The win is chinroutou and suuankou at once. A ron keeps suuankou here, because the discard finishes the pair, not a triplet. What that ron pays depends on where you play.

  • Tenhou: two yakuman. Its rules stack yakuman and pay suuankou on a single wait as one. A non-dealer collects 64,000. The dealer collects 96,000.
  • Mahjong Soul: three yakuman. Suuankou on a single wait is a double there, plus one for chinroutou. A non-dealer collects 96,000. The dealer collects 144,000.
  • EMA 2016: one yakuman. Yakuman aren't cumulative, so the hand pays 32,000, or 48,000 to the dealer.

Those payments have no and no sticks. The scoring guide lists the stacking rule with the other differences between rule sets.

Open or closed

Mahjong Soul's in-game yaku list marks , suuankou, and as closed only, and leaves all terminals unmarked. The EMA 2016 entry has no concealed condition either. That's the row on this site: yakuman, open or closed.

What sits with it

Toitoi and every other ordinary yaku stop counting at the limit. Suuankou is the yakuman that joins it on a , as above. Four quads can join it too, when all four sets are kans.

Common mistakes

  • Counting an honor. One wind or dragon makes the hand .
  • Scoring toitoi on . A yakuman pays the limit alone.
  • Missing the triple on Mahjong Soul. With suuankou on a single wait, the hand is three yakuman there.
  • Expecting the triple on Tenhou. Its rules don't double suuankou on a single wait.

Price an all-terminals hand

The score calculator pays one yakuman at 32,000 or 48,000 on a ron. Set two or three yakuman for the closed hand: 64,000 or 96,000 for a non-dealer.
