Three things to take to your own table
A riichi is a bet, not a result. Uchikawa declared five and won none, and Watanabe declared six, won two, and paid 12,000 twice. One proves nothing. Count what your riichi cost you when they miss.
Silence gets paid. Three dama hands decided two games on Tuesday: Hori's 2,000/4,000 with three dora, Shimoishi's honitsu for 6,400, and Setokuma's for 7,700 off a riichi. When someone else has declared, the table pushes against the riichi and feeds the quiet tenpai next to it.
Push for the place, not the hand. Asakura was fourth by 500 points going into the last hand, tenpai on a lone west. He pushed six tiles outside through the dealer's riichi and drew his own 700/1,300. Fourth on 10,800 would have booked -49.2. Third booked -24.9. The match report puts the place alone at 20 points.
